Introducing the SS22 Icon-Impact collection by UGG

First came Plant Power, UGG’s debut carbon-neutral collection. Then, in September 2021, we launched the Icon-Impact collection, reimagining classic UGG styles in a more sustainable way. Now, we’re taking the next step in our commitment to seeking and using innovative materials, in pursuit of a more regenerative future.

The latest Icon-Impact collection presents three new styles for SS22:

  • The Fluff Yeah Terry
  • The Fuzz Sugar Terry Slide
  • and The Fuzz Sugar Terry Cross Slide.

Each style adapts the UGG brand’s signature look and feel using low-impact materials. Carbon offsets are then purchased for the small amount of emissions created, making the materials carbon neutral.

The standout material for this Icon-Impact collection is UGGplush™ Terry, a softly textured blend of responsible wool and TENCEL™ Lyocell.

TENCEL™ Lyocell is a favorite when it comes to sustainable innovation as it is made from responsibly harvested wood pulp, sourced from FSC-certified responsibly managed forests, it’s processed in a closed-loop system, where more than 99% of the water is recycled and the solvents are reused.

The other key ingredient in UGGplush™ Terry is essential to our whole brand: responsible wool.

This year, we’re celebrating our commitment to animal welfare as one of the first brands to join the Responsible Wool Standard. We strive to ensure that all wool across UGG footwear will use either repurposed/recycled or Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified. RWS-certified wool means that it comes from farms that have a progressive approach to managing their land, practice holistic respect for animal welfare, and respect the sheep’s ‘Five Freedoms’, an internationally accepted welfare standard for livestock.

Each of the three styles in the SS22 collection also feature Sugarcane Outsole foam, made with ethylene derived from sugarcane. A renewable resource, sugarcane is fast-growing and nourished by rainwater; plus it absorbs 1.6 pounds of CO2 for every pound of petroleum-based ethylene it replaces. In short, Sugarcane Outsole offers the same cushioned experience as conventional EVA foam, while reducing our dependence on fossil fuels – which is why we love it here at UGG.

Beyond innovative materials, we’ve once again partnered with One Tree Planted to plant 3,950 trees in the USA Pacific Northwest and 10,000 more in England. This will create the potential to absorb six million pounds of carbon dioxide, or more, over the next two decades.

Like our previous carbon-neutral collections, the Icon-Impact SS22 capsule is thoughtfully designed with a reduced environmental footprint in mind.

Its goal is to show how iconic UGG footwear can be recreated in more sustainable ways, without compromising on style or comfort, and to inspire our future collections. By 2027, we’re aiming to feature recycled, repurposed, regenerated (plant-based), renewable (bio-based), or certified/preferred natural materials in 65% of our footwear – while delivering the same soft feel you know and love.
